Lina's First Day at School, Padua Italy 1952

I had a black overall with a white collar with a lovely blue bow. This is what I wore for my first day at school. I also had a big brown material bag. I went 2 kilometres on my own. It was a private teacher from the town Padua who taught there. She was quite nice. There were about 20 children. I was very bright. This was in 1952 and Italy was very poor at the time, because of the war. It was a democratic government. My home was very conservative because my father and mother were strong believers in the catholic church. It was a girls only class for my first year. My dream was to go to an office to do something with people. I had a large family, 10 children plus parents and grandmother. We were poor as the family was too big.

PAT'S STORY
My life began in 1947. I was born in Blackpool to Mona and Jack and  I am the child of 9 children. I used when I was small to go on the beach with my mother, and a lovely time. my dad was a bookies clark.
